EXPLORE...

A gentle stroll from the market town of Chef-Boutonne, your accommodation is ideally situated for you to explore the area.

Chef-Boutonne, recently awarded the title of Petite cité de caractère, is home to the source of the Boutonne river. The town is served by a small selection of bars/cafés and restaurants; a cinema and a weekly market…as well as traditional Boulangeries and national supermarkets. Why not pick up provisions, borrow a picnic basket and rug and enjoy an al fresco lunch sitting under the shade of a tree by the lake at the Château Javarzay.

Day trips further afield…

La Rochelle (with its old harbour and modern marina) and Ile de Ré - are a perfect day trip to the coast at just over an hours drive.

The Marais Poitevin  (Green Venice) - just north of the city of Niort - is a paradise for outdoor leisure activities - boating, cycling, walking etc.

Niort - is only 40 mins away. Fancy a day at the races? A round of golf? A visit to an art gallery, muséum or theatre?

The cities of Poitier to the north and Angoulême to the south are both less than an hours drive.

The brandy houses of Cognac are also within easy reach.

Kayak hire on the Charente river for a few hours is possible during Summer weekends - just 20 mins away. The Poitou Charentes is also superb for cycling; fishing; photographers; nature lovers... the choice is expansive.

A telescope is available for your use to explore the amazing (pollution free) night skies.

Airports at Poitier, La Rochelle, Limoges and Bordeaux are all within easy reach. As are the train stations at Niort, Ruffec, La Rochelle, Bordeaux.
